Doug had left for work early in the morning and I assumed that she would be cuddled up next to Rose on the couch. Instead I found her working hard on an art project on the dining room table. It was a surprise for Jetty and she did it all by herself with the stickers leftover from the hospital. School happened, summer happened, sick children happened. I am happy to be back and with lots of new things going on in our life.
Jetty started a new school after spring break. The public school wasn't working out for us and it was sad because I really wanted to support the public school system. In the end I gave it a year and a half and I knew it wasn't the right thing for our family. We are lucky enough to have a charter school just outside of town. We decided to give it a try and I had it set in my mind that if it didn't work we were going to homeschool. Well, I am happy to say that the charter school has been wonderful and a very different experience then the public school.
I was also offered the job of art teacher for the school at the end of the school year. I wasn't planning on returning to work but I do miss teaching and love the idea of being at my child's school. Since I haven't taught in 6 years I had to take two college courses to renew my teaching certificate. I was a little overwhelmed with two 14 week online courses condensed to 6 weeks. That is one reason I haven't even wanted to open up my laptop. I needed a break from the computer and all technology. We have been spending lots of family time traveling and on the water. It has been a great summer.
I am happy to say that all my requirements are behind me and I will only be teaching two days a week which is ideal for my family and I am so excited to be in the classroom once again.Melhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05933045176454347624noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4561180717223254595.post-2787134188651376492010-04-26T11:45:00.003-04:002010-04-26T12:38:20.635-04:00Little Garden<img style="float:right; margin:0 0 10px 10px;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgNGF72fwRBWl_XDxCaFtJfTjP72slvLb0t9CY9W6HmrIUyrqyqEmHaP_9auYzRc9zHueFnTNsukRB9VhG7j_KDgQUBwWwaOF7lUS3pCSAJhaMHM2JFKfT5QKDN-wGYJc-iK1sFmSr7nV4/s320/P3220233.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5464486241919031058" />
<img style="float:right; margin:0 0 10px 10px;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh8Qwdp9sHUpdiKTrweoeVtt5k3hPkbOkx2PbaDEEhKAQg3_T9me3fBfe4dmui9QvXJ9Uo5O3MvSILLvn1UphJxoO7LIW7MFRtTmuqrkqfRDvbexHrOzbvxSy2i2lYsPzpxAMTuhq6o4Ic/s320/P3220234.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5464486229282515890" />
<img style="float:right; margin:0 0 10px 10px;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjcJMgzF8QPW2QeWoQaNO4BFv0B57zIsR5ctUrn4DMnaqiEPtNT_lBr-uxzlj8-OGSlbUdttZ_mkfxrkA72nPEH6DnSmwBnRxvEuHtXJ_bM4zaLywBWtCbrWNv2m6nYsAi-1hMkMnDUD8E/s320/P4180366.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5464486222322513250" />
<img style="float:right; margin:0 0 10px 10px;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhtrWTcN3sKJrIYKMIEg9WYyF-79Wh9LIn2H-adMjxduagVnWFrsY5WjPR-hxE0eVTQ-YybfhyTdvgQMD7fzFydUCSjJrUbriA-wkla_qSX4oJFo-kyL6RIqIfrCJYTUniyAMmGZBPFgE0/s320/P4180367.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5464486212540080050" />
I am LOVING our earth boxes right now. The girls have been wanting a veggie garden but we have a very shaded back yard. The one place we have lots of sun is the large tiled patio out back. I have tried potted plants there but it is too hot in the summer for traditional style pots(especially when I forget to water for a day or two). Well, last summer I was introduced by my friend Janine to these wonderful pots she sells at her nursery. They are amazing and I swear you can watch the plants grow right in front of you. I have pictures of the girls getting the soil mixture ready for planting but for some reason I didn't get a picture of the baby plants. They were the small veggie plants that come in the little pots. Compare that to the plants 3 weeks after we planted them. My squash and zucchini have over 30 blossoms on each plant. I can't wait to get a couple more pots.Melhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05933045176454347624noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4561180717223254595.post-34526236163349263942010-04-03T21:40:00.003-04:002010-04-06T21:23:55.908-04:00Warm Sunshine<img style="float:right; margin:0 0 10px 10px;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgSnV5Qvh7tRmBR9UTbioG6_LTjIVoMsgKiCSroPhDuniZEJJl8CQEgnSwI3aMPa9nakRqsKi-CoMErMU5hhibs5DjHrjPm5t742Wj711Ki2n8GNKOS6nFMG8f3mqQb7bQw350TRKD-hlk/s320/P4020345.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5456092345217516098" />
So glad to have some warm weather after this cold wet winter. The girls and I decided to dye our Easter eggs with natural dyes(ex. beets,turmeric,blueberries,etc.). It was a fun science experiment and the girls even wrote predictions in their journals but the result was not very exciting. I decided that whoever dyed the eggs I saw online must have slipped in some food dye. It was still fun and the girls just wanted to add some more colors with q-tips which helped a bit.

Looking forward to spending lots of time with family tomorrow and finding lots of eggs.Melhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05933045176454347624noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4561180717223254595.post-9881443112937523702010-03-20T21:07:00.002-04:002010-03-20T21:13:34.005-04:00Teeth<img style="float:right; margin:0 0 10px 10px;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 240px; height: 320px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg3L1qTDcSKY1isKnf_JaURx4llGQxqgL5LiYS7lfcB_kuzee-E2BDWjZ9JhDtq2YMYVemXn9KXjQfPEooKJiWYXTTgCt6EWVrZV6es2gsWVYOGfH4yLLpXp30F1DszQ3aub1cf-TtS0ks/s320/P2160062.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5450888974999998770" />
I never remember being so excited to loose a tooth as Jetty. Floridians in general are pretty wimpy about the cold and I am sure Northerners would crack up with all our winter gear and constant talk about how cold it is outside. I enjoy the heat and I am even contemplating joining a gym for the rest of winter. I had no motivation to walk or ride my bike this week with the wind chill in the teens and twenties. It warmed up to the forties today so I was able to get a little exercise before the next cold front comes in the afternoon. Doug, on the other hand, enjoys the cold and easily rides his 4 hours and only complains about cold toes. I hope everyone had a great holiday. There is one show I DVR and the girls will watch with me once in a blue moon and that is "Chopped". Any tv that I watch is after the girls go to bed. The other day I was working in my studio and the girls were playing with play-doh. I heard Ella say "step away from your plate and see who will be chopped". I looked up and Jetty had three lids lined up with her pretend food. Anyone who has seen the show could appreciate the cuteness. I looked at the girls and suggested we go inside and play "chopped" with real food. It was so much fun and the girls got such a kick out of playing. Just an FYI, we didn't chop anyone:) I gave them a bag with salad, crispy rice noodles, honey and a banana. Jetty made these cute little precise plates and Ella made two different plates(because she is my little rebel)and one featured a lovely cheese and honey sandwich. They both ate everything up.Melhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05933045176454347624noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4561180717223254595.post-86862750257097629452009-12-01T09:45:00.003-05:002009-12-01T10:02:17.863-05:00The Fair<img style="float:right; margin:0 0 10px 10px;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiynDzOu2SzARDf_WQngdWzV33CbBqt0uMuTdjZTSkVADK3E-Xzhx6L1nd2mKTpIaLesyFllyT8Lp9GI2UizAuXWEYLo99EJCRREyZ8ec2bOSjVLESs1uCMhFEBe3EpRAmDdijErqMHlQI/s320/fair5.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5410282989241434818" />
<img style="float:right; margin:0 0 10px 10px;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg0-QKZ9VkaPZl4WwjNdrI_WZYBpv5xVa5wkrbo5Nhqz9eVHYV3S0JwQAFz9cgQo1R9J1mWOEcKjJcz6naodnAwKRXMmtYQ4HHANfQqOTpftZCsYGcGkcQ_nQ7oITF3scPJvMLqcfrjwMc/s320/fair+3.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5410282983189338258" />
<img style="float:right; margin:0 0 10px 10px;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjVL-QSdBMrYu70iq74gcxXzOpE-ZZHJQf1K1zQAJjPO4s_vRXJIGrlhl6zTK26xUm4sOM0aVbDJbLvjltUuEAb5dMJgaD1NjpXpdIiA88XGgM-bhFrFobS_bnGQuzRxwNkcNd0LTNbHgg/s320/fair2.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5410282979848270242" />
<img style="float:right; margin:0 0 10px 10px;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEig5cGFxLWJ0tu4V5E0PloGGYd7uvQsvHKdc0hfDmsAjZYt1mPHFYScigoBcKXkv-vb_cRr7jBe_Asvl1EzHfX99CL2g2c3uM7dQd88cZJlayV5ynv0QDVvkhRNL7e34y2DgwPLbva2DUM/s320/fair+4.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5410282976849096194" />
<img style="float:right; margin:0 0 10px 10px;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiNsWCMs1V-XP527XNUGP53L1svUD3HUY1STedKfxCzgZkB5Mvm-TaNdfcpsUvOUp3Oh3AdVtua16gmv0GNFHqjxulFThP13BWCoiLSztAaF7LMVZn-mtSY4palE43TExKaALsCdBkWAN0/s320/fair+1.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5410282966327309010" />
The girls have been talking about "it" for a year and it finally arrived. Thank goodness because she had such a great time being able to ride with Jet.Melhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05933045176454347624noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4561180717223254595.post-9576183479033240972009-11-13T08:54:00.003-05:002009-11-14T16:27:33.607-05:00Wiped Out<img style="float:right; margin:0 0 10px 10px;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEguxUO8rC2E-xxpMgCz2BouwhHmnGcXMLRjgCzUxlDDrPyoPIgppwCVQz4lK-49rUTY0swFlvK-MULCehsNNccTXN1hEgjadmCK2PEOeV_tZD0WTHVrHbAiyxAv2cv47-f3LkhucXRzC-U/s320/jetty+nap+resize.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5403587787729792258" />
Jetty has not been herself since the Flu. She is just wiped out. I am wondering if she is having a relapse of Mono? The other day when I was in the studio Doug took a photo of her after she fell asleep in this small box. Poor little thing. As for her tests...the MRI needs to be redone in a year or two to see if there are any changes in some lesions on the white matter. They aren't concerned and it is something that people with migranes usually have on their scans. Now we need to re-do the bloodwork again and see if she still has a positive ANA and we have started a headache journal to try to find her triggers.Melhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05933045176454347624noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4561180717223254595.post-38485311479252626082009-11-13T08:22:00.003-05:002009-11-13T08:54:17.471-05:00My Super Heroes<img style="float:right; margin:0 0 10px 10px;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 240px; height: 320px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiPJ67SJk6jBfLxkt6ekrH64Ni3OulY7RTo8yl0A_C8KJEhx-IlF5Dztm587rfdlNROfw0F_udh4vdxyGZT8z7Op-DPnsxxgguDqmRXuomxakSJQ0Au4fSgrw84IhhP9VLNOMOc7oFpo_0/s320/super+recycle+girls+1.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5403585904621684098" />
<img style="float:right; margin:0 0 10px 10px;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 240px; height: 320px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiGj9ndYDL7uU8rLkrodaWwL8GuXJMcq_W5LNS0cBe9L3rvLrJGaAAC93EZ0V0nzJjAb05n6Gdlir4yrDG4cUrm1csWuccJPFaNngHJs8oQ17iU3KzE505Xv9JnNoWhKM1gCM7YgwiT8Ds/s320/super+recycle+girls3.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5403585905798852434" />
Jetty finally decided that she wanted to be a Super Recycle Girl for Halloween. Ella also loved this idea and the "Super Recycle Girls" were born. What a difference a year makes in the excitement of Halloween. Little timid Ella was so excited to dress-up (she has always refused)and walked up to the houses like such a big girl. The costumes were so much fun to make with the help of this etsy video. Their boots, belts, and bracelets were all sewn with fused plastic bags. So much fun to do!

This is the 4th year we have been lucky enough to trick or treat with a group friends. There was about 15 families and it was so much fun. One of the houses had an old dog who looked like Hudson. Ella walked right in their house and past the man handing out candy. Doug called to her from the doorway as he watched her walk straight to the dog and pet him as he laid on the floor. She told us she wanted to pet the dog to remember Hudson. It brings tears to my eyes. She is such a sweet little animal lover.Melhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05933045176454347624noreply@blogger.com4tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4561180717223254595.post-15320457011681817992009-10-09T10:15:00.003-04:002009-10-09T10:29:19.589-04:00The Flu and Should I be Concerned...<img style="float:right; margin:0 0 10px 10px;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjikAIN5sojHJArv3ctvip31c5uiQ6y-j0-oacfWBraIRjje8l6Vmqp9yxEAwxUnBeeYpYCQokY2d46Tf23Gvf1CIEcepoY9PF4hKOS6_9eRjPPPMvbavg62Z-xrpsmOA6Y2KNU3bN1kb0/s320/summer2+2009+007+resize2.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5390607143124924530" />
We have been stuck in the house for the week with the flu. Jetty was diagnosed last Saturday and started Tamiflu but they are now treating her for pneumonia(we are still waiting for x-ray results). She is doing much better with no fever in two days but she is so tired. She fell asleep last night at 5 woke up for dinner and fell back to sleep until 8 this morning. Doug came down with it a few days ago but is now starting to feel better. I had a sore throat so I started taking Tamiflu and it hasn't gotten any worse. Ella seems to have the best immune system of any little kid because she is still hanging in healthy. Hopefully we will be all back to normal next week but I am so grateful it wasn't any worse.

On another note...this is written on the utility pole that faces our house. Why would you write "I love the man on the bike?". Should I be concerned? Well, my computer is slow as molasses and I really try to avoid getting on it as much as possible. I am saving my pennies for a newer model so the girls can use this "clunker".

Jetty has had some tests in the last two weeks and so far so good. The tests are for daily headaches she has been having for months and because of her +ANA they really needed to check her blood vessels. There was a little something on the MRI/mra that requires another test on her nerves that she will be getting this week. Poor little thing had to be sedated for the MRI and MRA which was an experience. Eight hours later we were at home and she would stand up, make a funny comment and fall on her face. The neurologist says if the nerve test is fine we just need to re-do the MRI in 2 years to check the area again. It is most likely a condition that shows up when you have Migraines. Now we are trying to find her triggers for the Migraines. She is really a trooper and never complains about anything. I feel like we have had so many Dr. appts lately but I feel like we are getting closer to an answer. We re-do her bloodwork in another month and I am hoping that a third time is the charm and all her levels will be in the normal range.Melhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05933045176454347624noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4561180717223254595.post-30365968749397962812009-09-02T08:30:00.003-04:002009-09-02T08:44:30.238-04:00Puppy Love<img style="float:right; margin:0 0 10px 10px;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEipBFePb3ebP2HRIXHwOQNFMV4DUTmtHAmXlY5Q7LcVWW5omIECm1oj2pQEQRWyYlDusGCNDTTeUK2mp8KV529YbmqHbiXOy9OGR8f9IS-bdovH3iu2zs6k0Wz3AscLYkan-HRcy7gzoy8/s320/pup2.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5376849576183183138" />
<img style="float:right; margin:0 0 10px 10px;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgb5RPPZoEcCTNGtyx8x0Hr-aSA4TXKXfxUhyPx9aPEJAe4nvaSAejTQu5ugdoWVWF2epcs6aRTHc29vAlOJb-xjiimJkJm8mgcfXzC663WRWDfTyzJZX_HdUEoJVrMLAoUF6x5tcXIF9o/s320/pup4.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5376849567106048642" />
<img style="float:right; margin:0 0 10px 10px;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhjznEDCaFvsHpVCe9FjFeEGspizyqy3cTMD2fpTtziWKyaY9hoX4Q0wnmGgz5FPv2QI4TzuhHFYRkRSocPWojGe3Pn0H1lRuwhns3nOLi4KTEfoxwXRXFp2tVRO3cXBAelUMmiW3ZkN90/s320/pup3.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5376849563368709170" />
Jetty started first grade and she is loving being back at school. She has also started reading! Out of he blue she will tell us what some words are and she is even trying to sound them out. Kids are so amazing!

As for the puppy...have I mentioned that she is a little extra work? She gained 21 pounds in a month(she is now 41 pounds and almost 5 months old)and is sweet as ever. I had all my rocks in a wood box my brother made in boy scouts. How I wish I still had that box of rocks. Gem mining with the girls was so much fun and now they had a good collection growing.

After Gem mining we went into Cherokee. Cherokee is one of those tacky tourist destinations that remind you of the road side attractions of the 60's. I always have fond memories of Cherokee as a child and the truth is there are wonderful things in Cherokee if you can look past the tackiness and casinos. The Museum there is really wonderful and the Native American village was just a beautiful walk in the woods. The mountains were beautiful and we had a nice relaxing week. This week has been spent doing laundry, adjusting to the puppy, and watching the Tour. Truthfully, Doug has been watching the Tour and I am truly interested but I am too tired to watch it all at night.

One of the days on our trip, my very in shape husband, rode his bike from our cabin in Asheville to the summit of Mt.Mitchell(36 miles one way). I am so impressed by the cyclists that are able to do that ride. I am also impressed with my ability to follow him back on part of the Blue Ridge Parkway as he went down the mountain at 40 mph and not be concerned. The worry that would normally be welling up in my throat has dissipated with time and I know how careful he is on his bike. The girls and I had met him on top of the summit and we ate at this cute little restaurant right below the summit. At one point as we were following Daddy down the mountain Jetty said "Mommy, please pass Daddy". My immediate thought was that she was concerned he would crash but then she clarified "I don't want him to beat us to the cabin". Everything is a race with that girl.Melhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05933045176454347624noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4561180717223254595.post-52138916994710354292009-07-17T21:11:00.002-04:002009-07-17T21:15:45.093-04:00Back from VacationWe just git back from a lovely vacation in the mountains.
